After being taken into custody, Joe battles Nishi, the hooligans’ leader and future closest friend, in a makeshift cell. Then, he and Nishi go hundreds of kilometres from Tokyo to a youth facility. A rivalry forms between Joe and former boxing prodigy Rikiishi once they meet there. When they square up, Rikiishi dominates Joe until the latter hits him with a cross-counter, which causes both of them to be knocked unconscious.
