Synopsis
Until the Souma family takes her in, Tooru Honda was an orphan with nowhere to go except a tent in the woods. The Souma family, however, is not your typical family, and they have a dark secret that only the other gender can reveal: when they are embraced, they transform into Chinese zodiac animals!
Tooru’s pals Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima, as well as their classmates, must now be kept in the dark about Kyou and Yuki Souma’s curse. She meets other members of the family as she is dragged further into the enigmatic world of the Soumas and develops relationships with them along the way.
However, this curse has brought about a lot of misery and shattered many Soumas. In spite of this, Tooru might just be able to console their souls and cure their hearts.
Background
Fruits Basket received the 2001 Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo manga category and the “Best Manga” award at the 2007 American Anime Awards.
