Synopsis
The Elric brothers’ bodies were torn apart by alchemy. Can their connection complete them once more?
In this universe, people who practise and study the science of manipulating and converting matter—also known as the art of alchemical transmutation—are known as alchemists. They are constrained by the adage that one must give up something of equal worth in order to obtain something of greater value.
Edward Elric lost both of his limbs in a botched alchemical procedure, and his brother Alphonse was reduced to little more than a soul in armour. With artificial “auto-mail” limbs, Edward transforms into a state alchemist in search of the fabled Philosopher’s Stone, the only substance capable of healing his and his brother’s bodies.

As of 2015, over 64 million copies of the series have been sold worldwide, making it one of Square Enix’s most successful publications, according to Nielsen Bookscan. A live-action film is in development by Warner Bros. Japan and is scheduled for release in Winter 2017.
