The story begins with the peaceful aftermath of the battle against Majin Buu. Goku, now a farmer, enjoys a calm life with his wife Chi-Chi and their two children, Gohan and Goten. However, their tranquility is short-lived when the God of Destruction, Beerus, awakens from his slumber and seeks out Goku after hearing rumors of his incredible power. Goku and Beerus engage in a fierce battle, showcasing the tremendous strength of both fighters. Despite Goku’s valiant efforts, Beerus emerges victorious but is impressed by Goku’s potential.
The series introduces the concept of parallel universes, with each universe having its own God of Destruction and Supreme Kai. This leads to the organization of the multiversal martial arts tournament known as the Tournament of Destroyers, where universe representatives compete for their respective universes’ survival. Goku, Vegeta, and their friends participate in the tournament, facing off against powerful opponents from other universes.
While exploring the multiverse, Goku and his friends encounter the mysterious Zeno, the ruler of all universes. Zeno takes an interest in Goku and becomes his friend, often attending the events he participates in. The introduction of Zeno further expands the scale of the series, as his power and authority shape the future of the Dragon Ball universe.
One of the major story arcs in “Dragon Ball Super” is the “Future Trunks” arc. Future Trunks, seeking help from Goku and his allies, arrives from a dystopian future where Earth is under the rule of an evil and immensely powerful villain named Goku Black. Goku Black is revealed to be Zamasu, a Supreme Kai apprentice from Future Trunks’ timeline who has become a rogue deity. Alongside his partner, a Zamasu from an alternate timeline, Goku Black wreaks havoc and threatens the existence of all mortals. The heroes face challenging battles, and the climactic confrontation leads to the fusion of Goku and Vegeta into Vegito. With Vegito’s power, they manage to defeat Goku Black, but the struggle is not over as they must confront the ultimate form of Zamasu, who has merged with the very essence of the universe.
Another pivotal event in the series is the “Tournament of Power” arc. The Grand Priest, Zeno’s advisor, organizes a tournament to decide the fate of several universes. The tournament takes place in the “World of Void,” where warriors from eight universes compete in a battle royal-style event. Each universe must assemble a team of ten fighters to represent them, and the losing universes will face complete erasure. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and their allies form Universe 7’s team, fighting alongside powerful warriors from other universes to ensure their survival. The Tournament of Power showcases intense battles, strategic alliances, and numerous character developments as the stakes grow higher with each passing moment.
