Land of the Lustrous

Land of the Lustrous is an enchanting and visually stunning anime set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanoid gemstone beings known as “Gems” fight against an enigmatic force called the “Lunarians.” The series follows the journey of Phosphophyllite, a young and fragile gem who strives to find purpose and become a valuable member of their community.

The story unfolds in a distant future, where the Earth has been ravaged by an unknown calamity, resulting in the creation of the Gems. These Gems are the embodiment of various gemstones, each possessing unique physical properties, abilities, and personalities. They live on an isolated island, defending themselves against the relentless attacks of the Lunarians, ethereal creatures who seek to capture and turn the Gems into decorations.

Phosphophyllite, often referred to as Phos, is a brittle and weak Gem known for their lack of combat skills. Frustrated with their inability to contribute to their comrades’ defense, Phos is determined to find a purpose for their existence. One day, they encounter Kongou, a wise and revered master who takes them under their wing and assigns them the task of creating a natural history encyclopedia. Though initially disheartened by the seemingly mundane task, Phos soon discovers that it holds the key to unlocking their true potential.

As Phos embarks on their journey, they encounter various Gems, each with their own distinct personalities and abilities. They form close bonds with Gems like Cinnabar, a solitary and toxic gem who possesses the power to manipulate mercury. Together, they face numerous challenges, both from the relentless Lunarian attacks and internal conflicts within their community. Throughout their adventures, Phos undergoes a profound transformation, physically and emotionally, as they search for answers about the true nature of their existence and the secrets hidden within their world.
