The Founder of Diabolism Season 1

“The Founder of Diabolism,” also known as “Mo Dao Zu Shi,” is a popular Chinese web novel turned anime series. Set in a fantasy world filled with supernatural creatures and magic, the story follows the adventures and trials of Wei Wuxian, a powerful cultivator with a dark past, and Lan Wangji, a stoic and virtuous cultivator.

The anime begins with a flashback to Wei Wuxian’s tragic end. Once a highly skilled cultivator and mischievous prodigy, Wei Wuxian’s reputation is tarnished by his involvement with forbidden dark arts and the demonic cultivation path. Despite his well-intentioned actions, he is feared and misunderstood by others, ultimately leading to his demise at the hands of his former allies.

Sixteen years later, Wei Wuxian is unexpectedly resurrected and finds himself in a world that has drastically changed. Determined to atone for his past mistakes, he renounces his previous methods and sets out on a journey to uncover the truth behind his resurrection. Along the way, he encounters various old friends and foes, including Lan Wangji, who is now a prominent cultivator of the Gusu Lan Sect.

As Wei Wuxian delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding his revival, he discovers a sinister plot that threatens the peace of the cultivation world. Uncovering a conspiracy rooted in ancient grudges and political machinations, he must navigate treacherous waters, face powerful enemies, and confront his own demons.

Throughout the anime, pivotal events and plots shape the narrative. Wei Wuxian forms an unlikely alliance with Lan Wangji, and together they uncover a hidden enemy orchestrating chaos in the cultivation world. They face off against demonic creatures, rogue cultivators, and the remnants of a dark sect, gradually uncovering a web of secrets and uncovering the truth about Wei Wuxian’s past.

As the story progresses, Wei Wuxian’s character undergoes significant development. He evolves from a playful and carefree individual to a mature and responsible cultivator. His determination to protect those he cares about is tested repeatedly as he faces personal sacrifices and difficult choices. The complex relationship between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji deepens, gradually evolving into a profound bond that transcends time and adversity.

It won the Gold Award for “The Best Serial Animation Award” at the 15th China Animation Golden Dragon Awards (第十五届中国动漫金龙奖). It also won “Best New Animation” at Xinguang Award (新光奖); the 7th China Xi’an International Original Animation Competition.
